The naked class grew by one today with Honda’s announcement that it will begin selling the new CB300F this fall. This new Honda, looks like a great entry-level street bike, based closely on the CBR300R and powered by that bike’s liquid-cooled 286cc single. It’s a stroked version of the engine in the CB250R, and Honda says this fuel-injected engine boasts a broad powerband while delivering outstanding 71 mpg fuel economy. Also, with a low seat height of 30.7 inches and specially configured side covers, the new CB300F is designed to make it easy for shorter folks to touch the ground with ease and thereby ride with more confidence. An MSRP of $3,999 makes the new CB300F all the more attractive.
Is the new Honda a narrow and nimble machine that will appeal to beginning riders and experts alike? We’ll reserve judgment on that until we ride the six-speed bike, but we do like that it has a claimed curb weight of only 348 lb. (that’s with the 3.4-gallon tank full of fuel), which is 9 lb. lighter than its faired CBR300R sibling. We also like that the CB300F has digital LCD gauges and a roomier, more upright seating position, which is a big plus in crowded urban environments.
Numerous accessories are available for the bike. These include a Honda Racing tail bag, a carbon-fiber tank pad, a carbon-fiber fuel lid cover and lots of carbon-look components such as a drive chain case, under-engine cowl, front fender, headlight cover, and tank shroud. Chrome bar ends can be ordered as well, plus a color-matched seat cowl and reflective wheel strip stickers from Honda Racing. And, lastly, shorter riders, take note: Honda sells an accessory seat that’s more than an inch lower than the CB300F’s standard saddle.
When the bike arrives this fall, the new 2015 Honda CB300F will be available in only one color: Red.
