The excitement of Wednesday night speedway action continues tomorrow as Industry Racing rolls into its seventh week of competition during the 2014 season. July 16 signifies the annual “Bruce Flanders Ugly Hawaiian Shirt Night” in which anyone wearing a Hawaiian shirt to the races receives half-off admission! Additionally, prizes will be awarded to the top three ugliest shirts in the crowd.
As always, adult general admission is just $10, while kids and seniors can get in for only $5! Combine that with the half-off discount of “Hawaiian Shirt Night” and there’s a truly unbeatable value for the whole family.
First Division and Sidecar Division battles will once again highlight on-track festivities for Wednesday night. With both Billy “The Bullet” Hamill, last week’s winner, and Billy “The Kid” Janniro sitting idle this week, the door is wide open for a new name to emerge in the Scratch Main Event. Charlie “The Edge” Venegas is the only other rider to claim a checkered flag during the 2014 season, but the veteran will be put to the test by young riders like Max Ruml and Tyson Burmeister, who want nothing more than to savor a victory of their own.
After an early string of dominance to start their 2014 campaign in the Sidecar Division, the No. 1 duo of Joe Jones and Johnny Glover have been held at bay the last two weeks by Dual Anderson and David Dent, as well as Bryan Motis and Josh Bennett. With three different winners over the last three weeks, this victory is up for grabs in what should be a truly thrilling Main Event.
The competition in both the Second and Third Divisions has also picked up. The Second Division has seen five different riders step up to the forefront of the Main Event the last five weeks, while the Third Division looks to have a potential rivalry brewing between its two winningest riders in Lewis Hughes and Steve Brown.
The young rising stars of all the junior divisions have also put on a show. The showcase Junior 250 Division has been hotly contested week in and week out, with Dillon Ruml walking away with the most Main Event wins thus far. However, Gage Geist has been in the thick of the hunt since winning on opening night while Braydan Galvin broke through for his first win one week ago. It’s anyone’s guess as to who will take the win tomorrow night.
The Mini 150 First and Second Divisions have provided a glimpse into the bright future of speedway. One week ago, the Martin brothers of Sterling and Alex posted a 1-2 sweep of the First Division. Can former winner Slater Lightcap make his way back to the front? In the Second Division, all eyes have been on Keelan Venegas throughout the season. He and his dad both captured wins one week ago, and they’ll look to do it again.
The Pee Wee Division is always sure to produce some of the most dramatic action of the evening as dominant Travis Horn must fight his way from a handicap of a half straightaway. While it took Horn some time to acclimate to the adjusted start, he’s now making the most of it and will be in search of his fifth win on Wednesday night.
A total of 6 weeks remain in the 2014 season at Industry Racing, with marquee events like the AMA National and the second annual AMA/FIM Youth Silver Cup Championship mere weeks away.
