Love or hate this brick and mortar brand, but when it comes to nationwide motorcycle gear and apparel stores, there is only one name: Cycle Gear.
Operating 112 stores in 34 states, Cycle Gear is a cornerstone to the motorcycle industry with its 13 million catalogs mailed annually.
We get news now that Cycle Gear will be changing hands, as J.W. Childs Associates, L.P. has purchased a controlling interest in the company’s stock, from its previous owner Harvest Partners, LP.
J.W. Childs Associates, L.P. is a private equity firm that specialized in leveraged buyouts (LBOs) and recapitalize of middle-market growth companies.
With the acquisition comes a shakeup in Cycle Gear’s top-level executives, though its Board of Directors positions stay mostly the same, sans William E. Watts, a Partner at J.W. Childs, will assume the role of Chairman of Cycle Gear.
“Cycle Gear has the leading omni-channel footprint in the motorcycle accessories category and we see significant market opportunity for the company,” said Mr. Watts.
“This investment is a perfect fit with J.W. Childs’ long-term strategy of investing in leading specialty retailers and we look forward to helping guide this next phase of Cycle Gear’s growth.”
