Yamaha YZF-R1M Gets Homologated by the FIM

It is something that we have expected ever since we heard of Yamaha’s intent to bring two different variations of R1 to market, so it should come as no surprise then that the Yamaha YZF-R1M has been homologated by the FIM for use in the Superbike & Superstock 1000 classes.

Actually both flavors of R1 have been given the nod by the FIM, though we know that if given the choice, teams will choose to develop the YZF-R1M over the base model, especially as it comes homologated with its forged aluminum wheels.

Other new bikes making the FIM’s list are the Aprilia RSV4 RR and Aprilia RSV4 RF, with again the latter being the weapon of choice. The revised Ducati 1199 Panigale R is on the list, as well as the updated 2015 BMW S1000RR. Rounding out the list is the 2015 MV Agusta F4 RR, which has a couple new parts needing the FIM’s approval.

The Yamaha YZF-R1 is perhaps the bike of the 2015 model year, as it not only finally brings an electronics package to the venerable superbike, but a very advanced electronics package at that. We can’t wait to give one a proper flogging.
