AMAMX: Round #10 KTM Race Report – Unadilla

Ryan Dungey race action shot

KTM Press Release:

Red Bull KTM Factory rider Ryan Dungey took the overall win at the tenth round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Series held at Unadilla Raceway to close the point gap between him and his teammate, Ken Roczen, to a mere 7 points.

Both Red Bull KTM riders launched off the line to top five starts in the first moto. Dungey quickly moved into the lead and tried to put a gap on the rest of the field. Roczen did not waste time and moved into 2nd place right behind Dungey. Roczen pressured Dungey for the first half of the race before Dungey was able to start pulling away. Dungey pulled out to an 8 second gap to take the win in the first moto while Roczen finished 2nd.

“Roczen definitely kept me honest in the first moto,” stated Dungey. “I know there are two motos so I still have a lot of work to do in the second half but the track is good and so is my bike today so I am looking forward to moto two.”

In the second moto, Dungey got another great start. At the end of the first lap he was sitting in podium position in 3rd place. Dungey trailed Eli Tomac throughout the majority of the moto before making a pass stick on the thirteenth lap. Once in second position, he maintained his pace and finished in that spot in order to take the overall for the day.

“The ultimate goal is the championship and I made some points up today but I have to take each race one at a time,” stated Dungey. “There are still points to be made up and two races left to do it.”

Roczen also earned a good start in the second moto. He came around the first lap in 4th place and remained in that position throughout the moto. His 2-4 moto scores earned him 4th overall for the day and allowed him to maintain the championship points lead with a 7 point gap over his teammate.
