Superprestigio Dirt Track Press Release:

Australian legend confirms after meeting MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez, one of his rivals in Barcelona’s flat track event next December.

Bayliss, race winner in both MotoGP and Superbike world championships, is the current Flat Track and Supermoto Australian champion.

Former Australian roadracer Troy Bayliss has confirmed participation in the Superprestigio Dirt Track, a short track invitational race event to take place in Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi olympic arena next December 13th.

Bayliss, Superbike world champion in 2001, 2006 and 2008, has made this announcement after meeting 2014 MotoGP world champion, Marc Marquez the week of the Australian MotoGP Grand Prix at Philip Island. Both riders and more than 20 current FIM World Championship roadracers will meet and face each other on the clay 200-meter oval racetrack in Barcelona, Spain.

Troy Bayliss brought his career in top motorcycle road racing to an end in 2008 after clinching three Superbike World Championship titles and 54 race wins. The rider from Taree is one-out-of-a-few roadracers with both MotoGP and World Superbike race wins. Bayliss won the 2006 Comunitat Valenciana MotoGP Grand Prix race in Valencia, Spain. Nowadays, Bayliss rules in both Flat Track and Supermoto Australian championships, with three and two national crowns respectively.

The second edition of the Superprestigio Dirt Track is more than likely to be bringing together all 2014 FIM Road Racing world champions. Besides newly-crowned Spain’s Marc Marquez, Moto2 title contenders Tito Rabat and Mika Kallio and also Alex Marquez, Jack Miller and Alex Rins from the Moto3 scene will be in.

Presence of “Baylisstic” will add one of the best specialists in sliding and another world champion to a more than remarkable event entry list. Britons Bradley Smith and Scott Redding, Frenchman Johann Zarco or Italians Enea Bastianini and Lorenzo Baldassarri are also expected to be attending, and more big names may arise.

Troy Bayliss:

“I am excited to confirm that I will be taking part in the second running of the Superprestigio in Barcelona. It is perfect timing for me, just two weeks after a race in Melbourne, so I will have a good lead-up event to help me prepare. The Superprestigio has grown a lot with so many top riders, and hope it will also help raise awareness of Dirt Track here in Australia”.

Marc Marquez:

“This is really great news! I’m thrilled, because Barcelona is not close to Troy’s hometown. Hopefully he can come a few days early and practice with me on my track. Races will be amazing, we’ll have real great time there!”
